the gift that lasts a lifetime

I'm curious. If you did something wildly unexpected this weekend and got a tattoo, what would it be and where would you put it? Maybe it isn't even that unexpected for you. How do you feel about the gift that lasts a lifetime? Are you too fickle for something that lasts...forever? Is it art? I don't have one, but I have always been fascinated by them. So....let's hear it....what would you get and where would you put it? Oh, and I do hope your weekend is that unexpectedly exciting.

  1. Oooh, this makes me excited! I have one tattoo and it sits between my shoulder blades on the upper part of my back. For a new one I would do the infinity sign on the inside of my right wrist!

  2. I'd probably do a butterfly. Not so original but I do love them bow as to where? Hmm...Must think on that.

  3. Oh fun question. Well I would either get a little elephant (they are one of my favorite animals and bring good luck) or get a peacock feather, because my married name means peacock in italian. I think I would either put it on my foot somewhere or the nape of my neck.

  5. Dragonfly on my wrist. My twin sister collected them... she passed three years ago and her 5 (all in their 20's) children and I spent the day each getting the same dragonfly on our wrist... it makes me smile. I went last and threatened each of them not to flinch or I wouldn't go thru with it! Glad I did!

  6. julia - is it true what they are addictive and once you get one, you want another?

kwana - i agree...where is just as tricky as what.

high heeled - good choices. peacock feather would be beautiful.

    g.- that's good.

chloe - wow. brought tears to my eyes. i can not imagine how hard that loss most have been. i love that you all went and did that together. what an amazing way to create a fun memory during such a difficult time. the dragonfly seems pretty appropiate for you too.

  7. I love this question and Chloe's response was amazing!

As goofy as this sounds -- and the fact I'd admitting this in "public" makes me blush -- remember the girly blonde on American Idol this year? She was so feminine, yet had a full sleeve of tattoos up and down one whole arm. I have been infatuated since. I could never go through with it, heck I don't even have ONE, but I loved the juxtaposition of bad-ass against her angelic looks.

  8. my son has many which drives me CRAZY--I change my art on the walls with the drop of a hat- so, I wonder how can you love one thing in one place for so long?!
I'm with Courtney-I saw a "sleeve" on the sartorialist of a gorgeous woman at a polo match- and love the look of that-
but, as I ask my son (which drives him CRAZY) "what's it going to look like when you're 50? 60? 70? And his response is "I don't know..and I can't wait to find out." Perhaps that's the difference...I would want it to be perfect forever and he accepts the change.
